IOT EXPANDS BUSINESS BOUNDARIES
Containing costs form one hand and identifying new revenue frontiers from the other is becoming a priority in global arena. All this, without ever losing sight of the fact that the value for the organization and its clients needs to go on growing, or market shares will be affected. Adapting to new competitive scenarios means elaborating new models for products distribution and use, but also learning to understand, through data analysis, the way in which companies’ assets perform and wear out to enable predictive maintenance systems.
Assets and products need to be monitored to effectively understand how they behave and how they are used. Both to understand how to make production and maintenance processes more efficient, but especially to identify the opportunity inside the interaction between collaborators and clients. The problem is: how to adapt the existing infrastructures and unify the management vision on such an objectively complex issue?
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the answer to this question. The integration of sensors, platforms, software in solutions that are specifically designed around the company needs and dimensions create a continuum that allows to transform buildings, machines, vehicles, products into object able to communicate position, stress, environmental variations. Through the elaboration of these data, not only it is possible to know in any moment the real status of any device, but also to highlight problems and opportunities to make it work better. Lastly, the way in which clients react with objects offers the possibility to reveal needs and mode of use still unexplored that can be translated into business models and innovative services.
