The Department of Industrial Engineering and Computer Science (DI3, “Dipartimento di Ingegneria Industriale e dell’Informazione”) of the University of Trieste, in particular, has a long experience in the following research fields: Operations Research, Optimization Models and Algorithms, Industrial and Distribution Logistics, Production Planning and Control, Logistic Chain Modelling and Control, Transportation Modelling, Innovation Models and Efficiency, Discrete Event Simulation. In the last ten years the Operations Research Laboratory (ORTS), headed by Prof. Walter Ukovich, developed research projects in the fields of Industrial and Distribution Logistics, Production Planning and Control, Logistic Chain Modelling and Transportation Modelling. |

The Laboratory of Knowledge & Intelligent Computing (KIC Lab) is an active laboratory of the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications Technology of the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus (TEIEP), a self-governed body that belongs to the technological sector of Higher Education and whose overall supervision is exercised by the greek Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs. The KIC Lab’s orientation is towards applied research and technology and its main concern is the assimilation and application of the scientific knowledge.
The main research areas and expertise of KIC Lab include: Knowledge and Intelligent techniques, Advanced Software Development techniques, Computational Intelligence and Soft Computing techniques, Modeling Complex Systems, Decision Support Systems, Advanced Signal Processing, Logistics Systems and Intelligent Information Systems.
